FAQs

Do you have any questions related to our online tutoring services? Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions.

What is online tutoring all about?

Our focus at Success Tutoring Online is educating students online. Online tutoring replicates what in-person tutorials can provide, but with greater flexibility in scheduling and location. We make use of video conferencing software and an interactive online whiteboard to create enriching sessions. With the online interactive whiteboard, Tutors can write out math problems, demonstrate concepts or visually show students how to write more effective essays. The student can see what the tutor writes on the whiteboard in real-time, as the tutor writes it. Likewise, when the student writes on the whiteboard, the tutor can see what the student is writing as he writes it. With this system, the tutor can see whether or not a student understands a concept or can do a problem correctly. The video conferencing application allows the tutor to see if the student appears to be happy and confident or puzzled and hesitant. It really is like having a tutor work with a student in person.

How are tutors matched with students?

The process of tutor matching is the hallmark of Success Tutoring Online. As we have a team of unique and skilled tutors who are well-versed in their respective subjects, we use the information provided by parents to identify the best-matched tutor(s) based on the student’s academic standing and need, academic goal, learning style, and available schedule.

Who are the tutors at Success Tutoring Online?

Our tutors primarily consist of:

  • Teachers. (New and retired.)
  • College and post-graduate students that have tutored other students and have excelled in the subjects they tutor.
  • Professionals or science experts that work in related fields.
  • Professionals or math experts that work in related fields.
  • Professionals that use their language arts expertise in related fields.

What are the credentials of our tutors?

The tutors at Success Tutoring Online have years of experience successfully teaching others either in a classroom setting or one a one-to-one basis. Many of our online tutors are credentialed teachers. Our vetting process ensures that any new tutors are evaluated as to qualifications before working with any students and all of our tutors are reviewed and assessed at regular intervals.

How effective is online tutoring?

Online one-to-one tutoring is on par with in-person tutoring when it comes to creating an enriching learning experience. But it comes with a host of other benefits such as convenience, affordability, flexibility, and comfortable learning environment. We at Success Tutoring Online know that today’s students and their families are very busy. Hence, we have made tutoring sessions available that do not disrupt the daily routine of the students or their family members.

How many hours do students have to give to tutoring?

It depends on how well (or how poorly) the student is doing in class and what it is that the student would like to accomplish through tutoring. Regular, weekly tutoring is usually recommended for students to make adequate academic progress, but this can vary from only an hour once per week to several hours weekly. The number of hours a student should devote to tutoring on a weekly basis depends on the student’s familiarity with and degree of mastery of the subject along with the student’s academic goal in the subject being studied.

Can parents monitor sessions?

Yes, parents can monitor their child’s tutoring sessions. They can be present in the same room or can be virtually connected to the whiteboard from a remote location. Success Tutoring Online has an efficient and accessible support system via email or direct telephone contact with the online administrator.

What kind of system is required to access online learning?

Students require a desktop or laptop with a microphone and webcam. (Tablets and cell phones are not recommended for online tutoring due to their small screen.) Additionally, the student will need a fast and reliable broadband/Wi-Fi connection to access the whiteboard and to connect to the tutor via the video conferencing application. Any newer computer with the latest version of Windows or Mac OS, and a web browser will let you access the online tutoring sessions. Headphones with microphones improve the audio quality.
