Frequently Asked Questions
What grade levels do you tutor for language arts?
Our main focus is grades 3 through 12, but all grades are welcome. We work with advanced first and second graders when they are ready, and we also support college students. Help spans reading, writing, AP English, HSPT, and SAT/ACT prep.
Do you tutor younger children for reading and phonics?
Yes, though most children are not ready to focus with a tutor until around third grade, even with a parent nearby. For advanced younger students, we make exceptions and have successfully worked with first and second graders.
Do you only tutor students in the Burbank area?
No. Because we are fully online, we tutor students throughout the United States. Our local roots are in Burbank, Glendale, Toluca Lake, and Studio City, but families anywhere in the country can work with us.
Are sessions one-on-one or in groups?
Every language arts session is one-on-one, built entirely around a single student’s needs and pace.
Is ELA tutoring the same as language arts tutoring?
Yes. ELA stands for English Language Arts, which is exactly what we teach: reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. Whether your child’s school calls it English Language Arts or ELA, our tutors cover the full range, grades 3 to 12.
Can tutoring help a child who simply does not enjoy reading?
Yes. Many of our students start out reluctant. Our tutors focus on building skill and confidence first, which is usually what turns reading from a chore into something a child chooses on their own.
