Empowerment through Education
Practice Testing and Preparation: The Missing Step

Success Tutoring Online empowers students by expanding their knowledge and preparing them for competitive college entrance examinations. Wondering how we can help you? Here are a few entrance tests that our online tutoring specialize in:

SAT

Most colleges and universities weigh heavily on a student’s SAT or ACT score to make admission decisions. The three-hour exam conducted by the College Board can be grueling. If a student opts for the 50 minute essay (which is no longer required, but still preferred by some colleges), the exam is almost four hours long. The SAT is supposed to measure intelligence or logic, persistence and the potential for success in a competitive collegiate environment. At Success Tutoring Online, our tutors can help students prep for all portions of the SAT, including math, passage analysis (reading comprehension), evidence-based writing and the essay writing sections of SAT.

ACT

Most colleges will accept either a qualifying SAT or ACT score. While the SAT can take almost four hours, the ACT is almost three hours in length and the optional 40 minute essay makes it over 3-½ hours long. The SAT leans toward measurement of intelligence, reasoning and potential success in a collegiate environment, while the ACT is supposed to give a more accurate assessment of what a student has actually learned in school. Whichever college entrance exam is chosen (some students choose to take both), our tutors can help students prepare by by assisting them with the English, reading, science, and math sections.

HSPT

Besides college entrances, Success Tutoring Online can assist students with the High School Placement Test (HSPT). It is one of the two commonly conducted Catholic High School entrance tests in the US. Students get two hours and thirty minutes to complete the test. Our online tutoring services can help students with the five sections of the test, namely verbal, reading, mathematics, quantitative, and language skills, along with three optional sections- Science, Catholic Religion or Mechanical Aptitude.

CHSPE

The California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE), established by California law, gives students the legal equivalent of high school diploma on passing it. The two sections in the test are English Language Arts and Mathematics. Clearing the three-and-a-half hour test requires students to build vocabulary, comprehend passages, and have a grasp over numbers, statistics, data, geometry, and algebra. Do not worry, because our tutors can help you expanding your knowledge of these aspects and acing the CHSPE test.

Private High School Entrance Exams: Gaining Acceptance into the Private High School of your Choice

In addition to assisting students to prepare for college entrance exams, the tutors at Success Tutoring Online can help students prepare for exams required for acceptance into private high schools. Many private high schools, including many Catholic high schools, require qualifying scores on specific entrance exams.

ISEE

The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) and the SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test) are the most commonly used admissions tests for private, independent, and boarding schools, however, there are others. (The HSPT is the most commonly used entrance exam for Catholic high schools. See below.) The ISEE and SSAT are two to three hours long and potentially may cover material that is above the student’s grade level. Both test similar subject matter but there are some differences. It is best to contact the school of your choice to see which test is preferred or if either are accepted.

HSPT/ COOP

The HSPT (High School Placement Test) is the most commonly used entrance exam for Catholic high schools, but there are others, including the COOP (Cooperative Admissions Examination) and the TACHS (Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools), which is primarily used for Catholic high schools in and around New York. Entrance into Catholic high schools can be very competitive. Those schools that have a K-12 program don’t normally need to take any of these qualifying entrance exams if the student is staying with the same school system, but if the student is moving to another school system or applying to a school under a different diocese, one of these entrance exams will most likely be required.

Our online tutoring services can help students prepare for each of these high school entrance exams. Even though each test is slightly different, they cover similar topics: math, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary and grammar along with optional sections- Science, Catholic Religion or Mechanical Aptitude.

CHSPE/ GED/ Hi-SET

The California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE), established by California law, gives students the legal equivalent of high school diploma on passing it, similar to the GED (General Education Development) or the Hi-SET (the High School Equivalency Test). All of these test English Language Arts and Mathematics. They all require students to build vocabulary, comprehend passages, and have a grasp over numbers, statistics, data, geometry, and algebra. Do not worry, because our tutors can help expand your knowledge of these aspects to prepare you for these.

High School Equivalency Exams: For Students Ready to Take on the World.

There could be many reasons a student would want to take a high school equivalency or proficiency exam. If a student is an actor, once they hit a certain age, they can take a high school proficiency exam and receive their high school diploma which opens the door to working longer hours and possibly could be considered for more acting roles.

Additionally, some students are ready to take on the world and emblazon their stamp on it. They no longer wish to sit in a classroom and study, they want to get on with life and starting living it. Or they may be itching to get an early start in college. For whatever reason a student may have, there are options to the standard K-12 diploma.

With your help, I have been able to succeed in my classes and improve my score on the SAT. Without your support and guidance, none of this would be possible. Thanks for all of your help over the past year.
