to the first blog post for the Success Tutoring Online website! There is always so much that we want to communicate and share with students and the parents of the students that we work with. Our purpose, aim and intention is always to help students to learn, understand and master the material that they would like to learn, whether it is their next math class, English class or whatever other subject in which they would like our help.
Learning is not just something that is done in school according to the educational system that is currently in play. Learning is about grasping or understanding a concept, a subject, a topic or gaining a new skill or ability. It is something that one does – or should do – every day of one’s life. A rough paraphrase that more than one philosopher has said in different ways is: “A day that one does not learn something new is a day that is wasted.” Below are two quotes from men that the world has proclaimed to be smart:
- “Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” Albert Einstein.
- “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.” Henry Ford.
If it is done correctly, learning is a lot of fun. Done correctly, learning is all about acquiring a new skill or ability or gaining knowledge to satisfy one’s curiosity about how something works. However, for many students that is not what education is all about. For some, school is a drudgery. They see it as something one has to endure or suffer through. They think they have to figure out how to “fake their way through” by memorizing and doing the absolute least amount of work necessary to pass their classes. Education should not be that way.
That is why our tutors work with students to help them grasp the concepts they are studying. The intention is for the students to master these subjects so that they become useful tools the students can use later in life, or at least something that can help them with a higher level class in the same or related subject.
With over 20 years of helping students succeed academically, we also have learned a lot. We know how to help students win. We know how to help students succeed. We know how to move students from feeling crushed and overwhelmed to feeling knowledgeable, happy and successful as students.
While we continue to provide what we consider to be the best and most effective online academic tutoring available, we also help students and parents through direct, live consultations as well as through email blasts, social media posts, written articles and instructional videos. Now, with this blog, we have one more avenue for reaching students and their parents. Please check our blog regularly for the latest postings and updates.
